The Power of Fasting

I have been dealing with some feelings that have surfaced that I never thought I actually dealt or would ever deal with. But, the one that shocked me was the frustration that I had with God as to where I am in life. Then, that took me down a path of well, what am I frustrated about? Why am I frustrated? Where do I think I should be? Why does God have me here and not there? And, even though I wasn’t getting answers right after my questions started to spewing ( I think this is the correct word) out of my mouth, I felt so much lighter. Yes, the power of fasting is still a mystery to me, but I’m learning that it MUST be a part of my weekly rhythm. How many more questions were in me that needed answers, and better yet that JUST needed the attention and space to get them out? And sis, I bet there’s so much of this in you. too.

The GOOD NEWS is there is ALWAYS good news ! For this it means all we need to do is take a moment to create that space for us to take the intentional steps to meeting God in quiet. Now, even though this is good news, I know it’s not the easy news. The minute we wake up, we have everyone and everything else on our mind, and much of the time with great intentions but we have to FIRST set our POWER INTENTION. Yes, literally we RISE in POWER daily, so we just need to focus in and ask the right questions for the right priorities first. Questions like:

  • What/Why did you wake me up this day? ( God is intentional and he specifically has us in this day for specific spaces and places).

  • Where do you want me to show up and shine light on You? ( this is some of those spaces like work, places we are called to daily, people who we encounter throughout those spaces?

  • When things seem to be hard throughout the day, what resources can you give me to get ahead of the triggers that may come? ( like real/ practical resources like - setting reminder scripture alarms to pop up on your phone throughout the day. Set up POWER POINTS of reference throughout your home, car, work place, etc.)

You can check out two of my youtube videos HERE and HERE for more details on how to implement these. It is from a past challenge but VERY VERY relevant to use at ANY time. Leave a comment and let me know you found it when you get there.

Another quick challenge I would share with you sis is, what are you intaking? A lot of times we need to rid ourselves or detox from all the noise that is influencing our thoughts. Things we may be watching, people we may be spending time with, things we may be listening to. All of these things need to be evaluated because they are the key distractions in hearing and seeking God.

This book was a pivotal impact in my college journey and career shift and I have been finding it surface more on my youtube timeline. And, the MAIN thing I have been learning lately on my journey thru all of this is that God is intentional. I have literally been randomly scrolling on the Tube and would see references to this book or the clip of Priscilla Shirer speaking about it. So, I picked it back up and it was right on time with some of the questions I was asking myself and God, while giving me practical ways to make space for me and Him to work through them. Join us for our book club reading of this book and of course check out the book recap on RNP’s Youtube Channel.

Whether you are joining us publicly or privately on the Fasting Journey, you need to get this book !

And while you’re at it, you need to get this Study Bible! It has really been a big influence on why my spiritual journey has been engaging and exciting. It has helped me find purpose in my struggles, understand my strengths and even understand the context of the bible stories told and how they relate to my assignments in life presently.
